Synopsis
What happens when you suddenly come face to face with a man exposing himself in public? The Flasher is an artistic documentary exploring the psychological impact of this seemingly ‘minor’ transgression — a boundary crossed in seconds, yet leaving deep and lasting traces on those who experience it.
The film poses a confronting question: what compels someone to do this? Filmmaker Julia Roeselers embarks on a personal and layered investigation, speaking with both women who’ve been confronted by flashers and the men who’ve committed these acts.
Through interviews, personal stories, and expressive stop-motion animation, Flasher interweaves two perspectives: that of the women who felt unsafe and violated, and that of the men behind the exposure. In doing so, the film exposes the deeper emotional and social dynamics behind a fleeting yet disturbing act — and raises broader questions about power, shame, intimacy, and the boundaries we draw in public space.
Runtime: 36 minutes 29 seconds

I also made film on education and chance-inequality which is also on npo.nl ( Je mag altijd bij me komen. 2017). I just finished my film about single mothers: At night you become a mother (2023) which was screened at several international festivals and has so far won the Best Story Award at the DIVERSITY Filmfestival.
